Altrova’s Engadin
Places, seasons and small ways of experiencing the valley.
Welcome
The Engadin is a place that reveals itself slowly. Living here has taught me that some of the most memorable moments are often the simplest: a quiet bench overlooking a lake, the sound of a mountain stream, the changing light on the peaks or the atmosphere of a small village. This guide is my way of sharing those moments with you.
I hope it helps you discover not only beautiful places, but also some of the small things that make life in the Engadin so special.
Before You Begin
The Engadin is never quite the same. Light, wind and weather constantly reshape the valley. Rather than trying to see everything, these five small ideas may help you experience the valley a little differently.
Let the weather guide you
Here, a sunny day, a sudden thunderstorm or a few clouds can completely transform the landscape. Don't be afraid to change your plans. Very often, that's when the most memorable days begin.
Don't try to see everything
The Engadin has so much to offer, but there is no need to fill every moment. Sometimes it is far more rewarding to get to know one place well than to rush through many without ever truly stopping.
Return to the places you loved
A lake in the morning is not the same lake at sunset. A forest changes from week to week throughout the summer. If a place speaks to you, go back. You will probably find it has changed.
Allow yourself time without a destination
Not every walk has to lead to a summit or a mountain restaurant. Sitting on the grass, following a stream or simply stopping on a bench can become one of the most memorable moments of your journey.
Watch how people live here
A picnic by a lake, a quick swim in cold water, greeting someone on a trail, sitting in the sun outside a mountain hut. These simple everyday gestures often tell you more about a place than many of its attractions.
