The valleys of the Engadin invite you to slow down.
Some lead towards glaciers, others follow a river or wind through forests and alpine meadows. They are places where walking is never just about reaching a destination, but about discovering the landscape one step at a time.
These are three valleys I return to again and again, each with its own character and its own way of revealing the mountains.
Val Roseg
A valley best discovered slowly.
Some places reveal themselves when you arrive. Val Roseg reveals itself as you walk.
The trail follows the stream through meadows, forests and alpine pastures, while the mountains gradually draw closer. The glacier remains in the distance, almost hidden, only revealing itself at the very end of the valley.
If you prefer, you can also explore the valley by one of its traditional horse-drawn carriages. The sound of the horses' hooves, their steady pace and the feeling that time itself has slowed down are as much a part of the experience as the landscape.
In Val Roseg, there is nothing to conquer in a hurry.
It is a valley that teaches the pleasure of anticipation, reminding us that sometimes the most beautiful moments are found not at the destination, but along the way.

Val Morteratsch
Where the mountains reveal their true scale.
There are places where you spend your time watching the path beneath your feet. And there are others where, almost without noticing, you find yourself looking up more and more often. Morteratsch Valley is one of them.
The trail follows the stream towards the glacier, crossing forests, clearings and wide open landscapes. With every step, the mountains seem to grow taller, while the glacier in the distance reminds us that this landscape has been changing for centuries.
Along the way, you'll find markers showing where the glacier reached in previous years. They are more than historical signs – they tell a story that is still unfolding today and help us understand that nature is alive and constantly changing.
You don't have to walk all the way to the glacier. Even part of the trail is enough to experience the vastness of the valley.
It is one of those places that reminds us how immense the mountains are, and how, within them, we are simply passing through.

Val Spinas
The beauty of simple things.
Not every valley needs to be spectacular to stay with you. Val Spinas begins just beyond Bever and opens naturally into a landscape of meadows, forests, alpine pastures and a mountain stream that accompanies your walk. It doesn't try to impress you – it simply invites you to walk.
What I love most is its simplicity. A well-marked trail, the sound of flowing water, a few wooden bridges, cows grazing in the fields and mountains quietly watching from the distance. There is no summit to reach, no famous viewpoint demanding a photograph.
There is only the pleasure of being there.
In summer, it is a bright and peaceful walk. In autumn, when the larches begin to turn golden, the valley slowly changes its appearance while keeping the same quiet simplicity that makes it so special.
It is one of those places that reminds us how little we sometimes need to feel truly happy.
